The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel - Mini Review

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was recommended to me by a friend first. Then, a couple of my other friends wanted to go out to a movie and early dinner on one of my days off. I was excited to see it the more I learned about it.

What a fun and interesting movie! I recognized many of the stars, and it is one that you need to see for sure. It is a totally unique film, that takes you away in a sense, to another time an place. Mentally, this is something we all need to do once in a while. It gives some great perspective on life as well depending on how you look at it. Life is precious, and it is flying by for sure.

My guess is that you will enjoy the cast and the story line as much as I did. I can highly recommend it to you. Whether you see it while it is still in the theaters or you wait until you can watch it another way, do make a point to see it. Now I want to go and visit India!

Movies I have saw in 2012

So far, these are the movies I have seen in the theaters in 2012. More to come! The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Movies I saw in 2011

Here is the list from 2011 that I have seen in theaters. More to come!

I saw Rise of the Planet of the Apes in August of 2011.  It was pretty good, but didn't knock my socks off.

Sherlock Holmes : A Game of Shadows - This movie comes highly recommended, my whole family loved it!  My oldest teen son and I especially love this series of movies we have seen so far.

Moneyball, The Help, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Contagion

I have been going to the theaters a bit more recently, as a means of relaxing, maybe "escaping" some. It isn't something I do often, but when I do I enjoy it.

I liked Rise of the Planet of the Apes alright, but to be honest, I thought I would like it more than I did. To be completely fair, everyone I have talked to that has seen it, loved it! This surprises me some as I often like movies and others aren't so sure. It was pretty good, and I did like the alzheimers tie in. I wanted to know what happened in the movie for sure.

The Help was wonderful! I would highly recommend that movie. Evidently the book is just powerful and amazing.

Moneyball with Brad Pitt was much better than I anticipated. I didn't expect to like it, but just really wanted to see a movie! I am so glad I did. I would recommend it to anyone.

Contagion was also suspenseful an interesting, a must see at some point.

The Rocker - A hilarious movie!!

I loved this movie I watched with my son today, called "The Rocker". Now let me be the first to warn you, that while its getting my endorsement, it is a really silly movie, but super fun. Its got some fun actors in it, which actually make the whole movie. Don't be put off by the silly tone of it, it actually has a fun plot. I haven't literally laughed out loud so much throughout a movie as I did with this one, in a long time.

Have some fun, its probably easily accessible, and watch The Rocker. Its really cute and has a lot of surprising actors that you have seen other places.

Switch

I loved this movie, very sweet and funny at times. Jennifer Anniston and Jason Bateman were too fun in this movie. The little boy was cute and quirky, just like his dad. Great values, though very goofy and quirky at times. Definitely one to see, just a lot of fun and very cute. Very sweet, and of course I cried at one point, though it surprised me. I went with a friend to see it, and it was a great time.

Dinner for Schmucks

Dinner for Schmucks, with Steve Carell, was pretty good actually though mildly naughty at times. When I read the reviews, I braced myself for the worst, but it actually taught a fairly good lesson and was entertaining.

It was cute at parts as well, but went from that to really odd or goofy, then a lot of awwww moments from me, when I saw all the schmucks at dinner! (I have a soft spot in my heart that this "got to" I guess, and I felt badly for them all lol.)

Its fun to see, then of course the popcorn and cherry soda is fun and I share this with whoever I go with, or enjoy it by myself on occasion.
At our theater, there is a deal where if you have a heat advisory in your area, you can get in at a discounted price even for a matinee. Very cool!

2010

This week, I have seen Despicable me and Inception. Both were wonderful though very different. We saw Despicable Me in 3D which was so fun. I truly enjoyed this movie, though some kids movies I feel like I am just there for the kids, but not so for this one. I laughed and smiled a lot, and just enjoyed it. The voice of Steve Carrell was great! Inception was WONDERFUL and so fun. I loved the music and Hans Zimmer did the soundtracks for both movies actually. I am very impressed with Hans Zimmer!

I saw Robin Hood today, its opening day for this movie! Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, and all the rest were great. Great story, and movie. Highly recommend it!

Other movies I have seen so far this year (In the Theater, on the big screen):
Death at a Funeral
The Last Song

Dear John

Clash of the Titans - This is one of those movies I went to see by myself, believe it or not!  This is something I have come to love to do as a relaxing time to get away and just enjoy a good movie.  This was fascinating on many levels, and I would recommend seeing it if you never have.    I love the stories, and mythology represented.

2009

Some movies I saw from 2009

In the theater:
Sherlock Holmes
It's Complicated
Fantastic Mr. Fox

Rented and watched at Home:
Julie and Julia (one of my husband's favorite movies of all time, funny huh? Its cute, i loved this movie!)

I still haven't seen, "Where the Wild things are", which is just crazy. That is one of my all time favorite kids stories!

2008 - Movies I Saw in the Year 2008

Movies I saw in 2008

Expelled - Expelled was an interesting movie that I would recommend everyone see at least once.  I know it is controversial to so many, but the points are either true or not.  The ideas presented are either fair or not.  It can, at the very least, be a springboard for discussion about some incredibly important topics worth discussing.  Ben Stein and so many others including Richard Dawkins, made for an incredibly interesting movie.  Get to know some main characters at the very least that take part in the great discussions of our day.

2007

Movies I Saw in Theatres in 2007

Ratatouille - This was surprisingly fun and very cute!  It had a great story line.  I loved this movie very much.  I would highly recommend it.  I saw it in June of 2007, and it was a matinee that I took my boys to.  My husband is a great cook, and I thought he would enjoy this movie as well.

1982

E.T. Extra Terrestrial, oh my goodness, loved this movie!

1984

I saw Ghostbusters in the movie theater, loved it!! Such a great cast, and was very interesting story line.

1983

I saw Flashdance in the theater, among some others, I am doing a quick recollection for now. This was with my mom and sister and her friend, and I remember being really embarrassed at first during certain parts lol.

1977

I saw Star Wars in the movie theater, and will always remember how exciting that was. I was only 7 years old, and was amazed. The battle between good and evil stood out to me, as did the need to survive of the people in the story line. There was that little bit of romantic interest there, and the friendship between R2D2 and C3PO. The whole concept was so new to me, a 7 year old at the time. I had no idea how the love of going to the movies was going to be a part of my life for a long time.

Movies from the 1970's
Autumn Sonata

This movie with Ingrid Bergman was very interesting to me. It was more sad, and thoughtful, and was toward the end of her career. It was the last movie she played in actually.

The story, of a mother and a daughter and their family was very heartfelt and real. The movie showed the tension, the problems that can carry on from one generation to the next. There were parts in the beginning where it showed both mother and daughter happy to see each other, loving each other but things began to become more pensive over time. There was a lot of being honest with each other, and hurts coming out.

This would be a great film for any majors in the social sciences or behavioral sciences to watch. The husband and the sister's characters were played well also, very real just like the others. There was a lot of tragedy shared, and sad things remembered. However, before I leave it off like its just a downer, I cried at the end because of how the tone changed to one of hope and continued realness, and the desire for good and forgiveness. There was a point of view that shared that its not good to give up, and life is short, and its better to love overall.

I would recommend seeing this once at least. Its a great movie that will touch your heart.

Movies by Year, in Theatres

I love going to the movies, and will even go by myself. Being at the Theater is a great way to relax if you can do it. I want to share the movies I have seen at the box office and go by year. Going back in time will be a bit more difficult but I hope to remember it because there is just something really cool about that.

I also am going to share other movies I have seen outside the theater, like at home or at school, or elsewhere. Please feel free to share any thoughts you have on movies here, I would love to know what you like and recommend.
